Sometimes things happen in our lives that we just know are magical. For example, on a very cloudy day, 23 years ago, my husband Bob and I were laying in bed on a Sunday morning. It was evidently cloudy, not a sun ray in site. As newlyweds we were often lazy on Sunday mornings and taking that opportunity to talk about this and that such as the “what ifs” and the “maybes” as well as speak of our dreams for the future. On this one particular day, suddenly a blasting ray of sunshine, very thin for a ray, came streaming forth through the window blinds and burst upon us for just a few seconds. Then it was gone. Strange. We sat in silence for a few more moments and then looked at each other and asked, “What was that?” The day was cloudy. There was no doubt about it. I even jumped up to look out the window and not a ray of sunshine anywhere. Yet, we knew that something special had occurred. “Was it…?” we asked each other. “Could it be?” we questioned the reason for such a bizarre occurrence. Lo and behold, about 6 weeks later I found out I was pregnant with my first child, Tarah. At that moment I had an immediate realization that the burst of sunlight on that cloudy day just weeks before, the brilliant ray of light had been some sort of sign, that this special soul, our daughter’s soul, had made its grand entrance into our lives. A preview of her radiance, which is now so highly evident as she has turned out to be a wonderful person, so filled with love, light and talent as she pursues her Masters in Acting at a prestigious university. Yet, there is regret…that Bob is not here to see our little burst of sunshine. He took his life 16 years ago. He snuffed his own light out many moons ago. Yet, life does go on. And it does so in all three of my children. My beautiful, bursts of sunlight who light up my life more than they even know…It’s funny how a burst of sunlight on a cloudy day can make such an impact upon one’s memory… And for this memory, as well as for my three beautiful, radiant, almost grown children, I feel I am most truly blessed.
